Decorating with Love

Decorating with Love

I get questions everyday about how do we choose our items and then in turn make beautiful displays.  Do I ever have a theme?  Particularly around Christmas time I get this question.  The answer is nope, not at all.  Do I know what I am headed to buy at market when I go?  Again, nope, not at all.  Do I have a background in design...absolutely not, I am actually trained in medicine!  How do we even begin to start decorating with the items we purchase? So here is the absolute key to decorating....Buy the things you love.  When you decorate with the items that make you smile and warm your heart, then it will all come together.  SO, here are a couple of tips I've learned since purchasing Adela's.

#1.) Find the one focal piece you absolutely LOVE.  You have to seriously LOVE it.  It doesn't matter if no one else likes it, that item is about you and expressing your style.  This item typically is a larger piece that we call a statement piece.  Now it doesn't have to be a larger piece to be a focal point, but if it is a smaller item, then you may need to find another larger piece to accent it.  #2.) Don't be afraid to go big or go home!  I always make my main displays with a lot of depth.  I love tall pieces or large pieces with small accents tucked around it.  We also use a variety of shapes and colors to give depth.  We do like some uniformity or  equality when you look at the display straight on, but the item in the middle definitely don't have to have any symmetry to them. #3.) Don't discount the use of florals and greenery . Florals and greens add not only color, but depth as well!  They also make good fillers for the spaces that need something, but nothing really fits.  We also use florals a lot to hide risers we use for to add height to an item, or to cover cables/cords/plug ins! #4.)  Pictures in magazines or Pinterest are great inspiration.  However if you come into my store and I help you design a display you may walk away with something totally different.  That's ok!  Design is a very fluid.  This is a good thing!  You can start with a idea you love, but be open to changing or tweaking it some! When you find items you love, your design end result will be Magnificent!

Holidays are all about love and laughter!  So decorating for your holiday season should reflect the things you love!  When you decorate with love it makes your house a home.

Happy Holidays,
